Major Signal - Music Visualisation

Major Signal is the title of a recently released LP by Berlin electronic producer Irakli as well as of the title track. We met Irakli during a "United We Stream" show in Chemnitz when we were vjing his set. From this rather improvised work, sprang the idea to condense the material to a music video for Major Signals.

The video consists of several realtime animations, each of them driven by music analysis triggering behaviours on a little satellite that explores a generative world, created by the music it is immersed in. Those animations were created with custom software in the visual programming environment TouchDesigner and composed in After Effects.

One of the challenges in this production was to get the debris out of the way of the satellite as well as the camera following. Further more this patch uses a trick to enable real time reflections on the generative architecture the satellite is traversing. All positions are driven by generative noise, which again is manipulated by the results of real time audio analysis.
